【Sports Inspires!】IHKSports Collaborates with CTFE Social Solutions to Launch “MVPA60HK Indicator”

“MVPA60HK Indicator” advocates for a joint effort between families, schools, and businesses to double students’ physical activity level achievement rates to 16% within five years

InspiringHK Sports Foundation (IHKSports), in collaboration with its lead advocacy partner CTFE Social Solutions, a philanthropic arm of Chow Tai Fook Enterprises, has commissioned the research team led by Professor Patrick Ip, Clinical Professor, Tsao Yen-Chow Professorship in Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, School of Clinical Medicine, LKS Faculty of Medicine, the University of Hong Kong, to conduct the “SportsHour Participation Index – Primary and Secondary Youth Research” since 2019.

The latest data were released on 3 December 2024, revealing that only approximately 8% of school children in Hong Kong met the physical activity standards set by the World Health Organisation, which requires children and adolescents aged 5 to 17 to accumulate at least a daily average of 60 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous-intensity physical activities (MVPA60) throughout the week.

Given the recent active promotion of the “MVPA60” recommendation within Hong Kong’s educational sector, IHKSports and CTFE Social Solutions have officially named the annual publication of the “MVPA60” achievement rate as the “MVPA60HK Indicator” to enhance comprehension among various sectors and the public in enhancing physical activity levels among students in Hong Kong. Our goal is to double the achievement rate to 16% by 2030, with the latest indicator released annually for reference. We were delighted to have Miss Shiga Lin, a local artist and a beginner mom herself, joining us in launching the MVPA60HK Indicator and inspiring families, corporates, and organisations to join hands in promoting physical activity among our children and youth.
