What is “MVPA60”?
MVPA60 refers to 60 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity, and according to the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) recommendation, children and adolescents aged 5 to 17 should engage in at least 60 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity daily on average each week. However, according to the research conducted by our partnering HKU research team, only about 8% of Hong Kong students meet the “MVPA60” standard. Thus, the “MVPA60HK indicator” was launched last December, aiming to bring together the efforts of parents, schools, and businesses through public education initiatives to enhance the physical activity levels of children and adolescents in Hong Kong. The goal is to increase the “MVPA60HK indicator” from the current 8% to 16% by 2030.
