MVPA60HK Luncheon and Award Ceremony 2025

“MVPA60HK Indicator” is an initiative launched in December 2024 to track the physical activity levels of Hong Kong’s children and adolescents. The Indicator aligns with the World Health Organisation’s recommendation that children and youths aged 5-17 should accumulate at least an average of 60 minutes daily of moderate-to-vigorous-intensity physical activities across the week (MVPA60). The initiative’s goal is to double the percentage of children and youths meeting this standard from 8% to 16% by 2030. Joined by representatives from 70 primary schools, companies, and organisations, the event underscored a shared dedication to enhancing children’s and youths’ wellness through sports.

Schools competed for the prestigious “Outstanding School Award”, along with three special awards: the “Best Use of Technology Award”, the “Teaching Staff Participation Award”, and the “Parent-School Collaboration Award”.

Another key award scheme is “SportsHour Company Pledging and Recognition Scheme 2025–27”, advocating for companies and organisations to take lead in promoting active lifestyles among children and youth aged 5-17. Awards were granted based on their contributions in increasing our children and youth’s physical activity hours. This year, a total of 31 outstanding companies and organisations were recognised with awards, including the Youth Sports Supporter Merit Award”, the “Youth Sports Supporter Excellence Award”, and the Best Practice Showcase Award”.

The event was honoured to have distinguished guests in attendance, including Ms. Alison Chan, Chief Operating Officer of Chow Tai Fook Enterprises and Director of CTFE Social Solutions; Professor Patrick IpClinical Professor of Tsao Yen-Chow Professorship in Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, HKUDr The Honourable Lam Ching Choi, GBS, JP and Mr. Daniel Chan Ho Yuen, MH, Silver Medalist of Wheelchair Badminton at the Paris Paralympic Games. Congratulations to IHKSports Staff Mavis Fung on Securing Bronze at

the BWF World Senior Championships 2025🥉

🎉 A huge congratulations to our IHKSports team member Mavis for winning the Women’s Singles Bronze Medal at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Senior Championships 2025!

In mid-September, Mavis Fungour Senior Programme Manager, represented Hong Kong, China, in the 40+ Women’s Singles category at the BWF World Senior Championships 2025 held in Thailand.

Mavis achieved a personal best by advancing to the semi-finals for the first time in this prestigious competition, ultimately securing a bronze medal🥉, marking an incredible achievement and a proud moment for all of us!

The BWF World Senior Championships, inaugurated in 2003, is a premier Grade 1 individual tournament held biennially for athletes aged 35 and above. This year’s event  attracted over 1,600 players from 53 countries and regions, including many renowned retired badminton stars.

The tournament began on 7 September, with former Hong Kong China badminton team representative Mavis competing in the 40+ Women’s Singles category. She advanced through the round of 32 and round of 16, defeating players from Germany and the UAE. In the quarter-finals, despite losing the first game, Mavis remained composed and staged a comeback to defeat a player from the host nation, Thailand, earning her first-ever spot in the world semi-finals.

In the semi-finals, Mavis faced another formidable Thai opponent, winning the first game 21–17. However, she was reversed in the second and third games, failing 5–21 and 13–21 after a grueling 42-minute match. Despite the loss, she proudly concluded her journey in Thailand with a well-deserved bronze medal 🥉.

Reflecting on her medal-winning experience, Mavis shared:

“This journey was incredibly challenging. Balancing work, family responsibilities, and training while managing injuries left me doubting myself and even considering withdrawing from the competition. However, in the month leading up to the tournament, I adjusted my training and rest schedule, which helped me regain confidence and improve my condition. Winning a medal in this tournament exceeded my expectations and filled me with immense joy. Seeing so many older players continue to pursue their dreams was truly inspiring. I hope we, as veteran athletes, can inspire young people to persevere – as long as you don’t give up, your dreams can  come true.

We once again congratulate Mavis on achieving her personal best at this world-class competition! While leading the WELL DUNK! Public Estate Basketball League & Training Programme and Jockey Club Believe & Bounce Basketball Programme: InspiringHK Dream Factory, Mavis has continued to train passionately, maintaining a high competitive level in badminton and demonstrating relentless determination. She is a true role model for all of us. We look forward to continuing to see Mavis shine in future competitions!
