Over 200 Hong Kong Students in Dialogue with National Gold Medal Athletes
The Hangzhou Asian Games took place in 2023 and IHKSports selected 10 teenagers as ambassadors to Hangzhou to watch the Asian Games events and engage in cultural exchange. They also invited Yang Haoran, the gold medalist in the mixed team 10-metre air rifle shooting at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, along with Asian Games volunteers to share their insights with local students.
Over 200 students engaged in real-time conversations with Yang Haoran and the Asian Games volunteers via video call. Hong Kong National Team Fencer Shawn Cheung made a surprise appearance, cheering on the national and Hong Kong teams alongside the students, and sharing his experiences of becoming a professional athlete.
10 of our students joined the exchange tour as Hong Kong Young Ambassadors. Several officials supported the event in Hangzhou, including Mr. Zhou Jinqiang, Deputy Director of the General Administration of Sport of China; Mr. Chen Weiqiang, Vice Mayor of Hangzhou and Executive Secretary-General of the Asian Games Organizing Committee; Mr. John KC Lee, GBM, SBS, PDSM, PMSM, the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR); Mr. Kevin Yeung Yun-hung, JP, the Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism; Mr. Timothy Fok, President of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China; and Mr. Kenneth Fok, Head of the Delegation of Hong Kong, China to the Asian Games.
Mr. John Lee, the Chief Executive of HKSAR, stated that the event was organised to connect young people in Hangzhou and Hong Kong, fostering youth exchange between the two places. He described this as a truly wonderful arrangement. Mr. Zhou Jinqiang mentioned that the exchange activities provided a valuable opportunity for Hong Kong youth to experience the organisation of the Asian Games firsthand, to immerse themselves in the culture and atmosphere of the Games, and to deepen their understanding of the Chinese mainland.
