Introduction

HEARTware Bootcamp, funded by the Advisory Committee on Mental Health and organised by InspiringHK Sports Foundation, is a 2-year programme that aims to provide comprehensive support for children with special educational needs (SEN) and their caregivers through sports, technology, and holistic care. The programme particularly focuses on integrating technology into sports activities to enhance the enjoyment of exercise. Participants are encouraged to establish a regular sporting habit, and to stay away from excessive use of electronic devices and prolonged sitting.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

Sports Session for Children and Caretakers

  • Concurrent sports sessions for children and caretakers
  • Enhancing students’ focus, ability to follow instructions and nurturing their social skills and teamwork
  • Offering caretakers a valuable respite from daily responsibilities and to relieve stress

Sports Technology Experiences & Visits

  • Hands-on experiences exploring the integration of sports and technology for children while caretakers join them in sports technology outings to understand how technology has become both a learning interest and tool

Caretaker Mental Health Workshop

  • Workshops and experiences for caretakers which are facilitated by professional speakers and trainers, covering important topics such as stress relief and self-care

Community Event

  • Annual community event with sports technology game booths for programme participants to share their learning with the public
  • The first community event for the programme was successfully held at Kowloon City Plaza in April 2024 and engaged over 540 participants. Dr. Lam Ching Choi, SBS, JP, the Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Mental Health was invited to be the Guest of Honour for the opening ceremony of the event.
