Mok Wai Him was the “Most Valuable Player” of the 3rd season in 2021-22. His exceptional performance and game-changing shots were pivotal in leading the “Lai Tak Sage” team to a remarkable comeback victory.

As a student currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and Health Education at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, he continued to showcase his passion in sports and demonstrated his commitment to personal growth and community engagement by completing a summer internship at IHKSports. He dedicated more than 180 hours in areas of event management and administrative work for WELL DUNK! and other sports programmes.
Participating in a basketball game might be common for players, but stepping into the court at Southorn Stadium for a final was a dream come true for me. Watching Division One games at Southorn Stadium on TV as a child, I never imagined I’d have the chance to play there myself, with multiple cameras broadcasting our every move. Walking onto the court holding a child’s hand during the grand entrance ceremony, with thousands watching, I not only enjoyed the game but soaked in the atmosphere.
This summer, I transitioned from a player to an intern at IHKSports. I led students from the current cohort to participate in an exchange activity at American Club. This experience reminded me of my past and I was glad to see the growing love for basketball among the youth. While engaging in preparing work for theWELL DUNK! Grand Finals, I learned about something behind the scenes — organising event materials, co-ordinating helpers, inviting and greeting guests — realising the nervousness players encountered were indeed shared by the supporting roles striving for a smooth event.
This internship has been invaluable. Basketball introduced me to new friends and honed my character. WELL DUNK! and IHKSports broadened my horizons and allowed youths from public housing estates like me to shine. I had no other thoughts about returning when I saw IHKSports was on the list of internship partners. Pursuing and affirming one’s life goals isn’t easy, and the chance to fulfill one’s dreams is even harder to come by. I am grateful to IHKSports for making my dream of playing at Southorn Stadium a reality and to all who have supported me.
